Junior Designer Position

Position Overview:

Under supervision of a licensed architect, assist Project Designer in designing projects; assist in research existing zoning, easements, topography, local culture, vegetation; use analytical techniques for measuring/evaluating flow of forces through structural systems; work with Structural Systems (gravitational, seismic, lateral forces), Integrated Evaluations/Decision-Making Design Processes; work on projects (Loads, Equilibrium, Free-Body Diagrams/Stresses, Columns, Beams, Shear, Moment Diagrams, Trusses, Arches/Membrane Structures); use Rhinoceros/Grasshopper/Karamba 3D; assist in conducting site analysis, sun path analysis, circulation studies, massing studies to create designs that meet program requirements/satisfy clients’ needs; assist in preparing/developing presentation materials; prepare site plans, floor plans, sections, elevations, 3D renderings, animations, visual aids to convey ideas related to design for client approval; develop plans, sections, elevations, typical construction details, equipment layouts (Revit, AutoCAD); prepare outline specifications to summarize design decisions/indicate which products/materials to be incorporated into projects; develop construction document drawings (Revit, AutoCAD), site plans, floor plans, reflective ceiling plans, sections, interior/exterior elevations, finish plans, construction details; prepare specifications to describe materials, equipment, systems, standards, quality of project's construction; prepare complete contract documents (drawings, specifications, required documents) for regulatory approval; coordinate with regulatory authorities to gain necessary approval for construction; prepare complete contract documents for bidding; provide support in processing Construction Administration phase documentation (RFI submittals, shop drawings, bulletins, change orders, payment requests, meeting minutes, agency documents); conduct periodic onsite observation of construction work to monitor compliance with plans; prepare as-built/record drawing to close out projects; research materials, finishes, furnishings; meet with manufacturers; select durable materials/products with lower environmental impact, best availability, most cost-effective while maintaining functionality/aesthetically pleasing; research applicable building codes; meet with building departments/officials; analyze ADA codes to ensure project compliance with  federal, state, local codes; prepare background plans for consultants; review their drawings; provide feedback to consultants to ensure project coordination amongst all disciplines; meet with clients, consultants, in-house project team to present project progress; and engage in discussion to resolve design issues.

Job Requirements:  

Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Architecture plus coursework, internships, or experience to include using analytical techniques for measuring/evaluating flow of forces through structural systems; working with Structural Systems (gravitational, seismic, lateral forces), Integrated Evaluations/Decision-Making Design Processes; working on projects (Loads, Equilibrium, Free-Body Diagrams/Stresses, Columns, Beams, Shear, Moment Diagrams, Trusses, Arches/Membrane Structures); and using Rhinoceros /Grasshopper/Karamba 3D. Experience and skills may be gained through academic coursework and concurrently while pursuing academic studies.

Salary range from $85,696 to $87,000 per year.
