David Fong founded Fong & Chan Architects together with colleague Chiu Lin Tse-Chan in 1982. As a sensitive, people-oriented designer, David believes that designs must satisfy both the rational and emotional needs of building occupants. David approaches each design challenge as both a problem solving endeavor and an expressive work of art, resulting in design solutions that uplift the human spirit. David's exceptional designs have been featured in numerous published articles, and have resulted in more than eighty national and statewide design awards.

Throughout his career, David prioritized the education and mentorship of young architects. Within the office, he frequently worked one on one with junior designers to train them in all aspects of design. A frequent guest speaker at architectural lectures, David welcomed student groups and interns at the office, sharing his design philosophy and strategies for maintaining a successful business. David contributes to numerous architectural scholarships and institutes of higher education.

In 2009, David was honored as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) and in 2023 he was recognized by the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum and the Society of Architectural Historians in Washington, D.C. for his career achievements an Asian American architect. David officially retired from practice in 2022 but continues to provide consulting services to the Firm.
